Before Xocai came along, eating chocolate of any kind was not considered a very healthy choice, in spite of all of the recent research about dark chocolate that proves otherwise.

You can't blame doctors and nutritionists for their skepticism because the chocolate that most people purchase from their local store contains a lot of pretty unhealthy ingredients.

Commercial chocolate is typically loaded with wax, fillers and tons of sugar which causes it to contain a high caloric content that results in excess body fat, a factor in and of itself that leads to a host of other health-related problems like obesity, hypertension and diabetes.

So other than satisfying a guilty pleasure or a late night craving, the store-bought chocolate that we are used to just doesn't have any health benefits. But what if you could have your chocolate and eat it, too? Read on!

Xocai products are made with raw cacao that is non-alkalized and non-lecithinized to maintain it's high antioxidant value. A closely monitored and patented fermentation, drying and roasting process ensures that chocoholics receive all of the wonderful health benefits of dark chocolate from each piece.

If you still aren't convinced of the health benefits of dark chocolate, then please take a moment to review just some of the things that make dark chocolate so good for you:

1. Cacao beans are one of the most complex foods on the planet, containing over 300 chemically identifiable compounds.

2. Unprocessed, raw cacao is considered to be the #1 super food in existence because it contains the highest ORAC value, or antioxidants, of any food substance on the planet.

3. Dark chocolate contains vitamins like A, B1, C, D E, and minerals like potassium, calcium, and iron, that allow our bodies to function properly.

4. The flavonoids in cacao can help reduce the risk of getting heart disease by significantly reducing fats from blocking the arteries, and these flavonoids have been known to reduce the risk of cancer.

5. The chemicals in dark chocolate brighten your mood, increase happiness and alertness, and have the capacity to reduce pain and reduce fatigue.

These are just a few of the healthy benefits of consuming dark chocolate. But of all the findings though, the antioxidant content of Xocai is the most significant.

As we are all aware of by now, antioxidants stop the negative effects of free radicals in the body. In the past, eating huge quantities of fruits and vegetables was the only way to get our bodies daily requirement of antioxidants. But now, eating Xocai chocolate can be advised as well!

Each piece of this healthy dark chocolate deliciously delivers 100% of the full antioxidant value of cacao without the fat, wax, fillers, preservatives and high sugar content of regular chocolate. By enjoying just three decadent pieces per day, you can turn your once guilty pleasure into a healthy habit!

There are as many stories associated to chocolate candy as brands available on the market. Different shapes, sizes, and colors are usually accompanied by a dilemma, which is better, dark chocolate or white chocolate?

Apart from taste, World's Finest Chocolates are characterized for their nutriments. Within your preferred brand, Hershey chocolate, Ghirardelli chocolate, Nestle chocolate, or Lindt Chocolates, you will find that they are available in dark chocolate and white chocolate presentations.

Nutritionally speaking, white chocolate is a new comer that has been promoted for the benefits of its higher content of milk. However, this type of chocolate candy is not exactly what a chocolate should be.

Standards of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that white chocolate is a combination of milk solids, butterfat, cocoa butter, sugar, lecithin and flavorings, but NO chocolate, but a similar tasting resulting from cocoa butter and sometimes artificial flavoring.

Although a white Hershey chocolate was introduced in 2005, it is White Nestle chocolate, which is more commonly found in this variety, which color is not due to milk content, but sublime or vegetable fat. You must be careful with this product more often referred to as confectionery or summer coating with very low nutritional value.

Lindt Chocolates has a white variety, the same as Ghirardelli chocolate, but labeled as baking chocolate. White chocolate is a great covering for desserts, cakes, dark chocolate candy, and more.

World's Finest Chocolates are dark whether bittersweet or semisweet. Chocolate candy is not only claimed as a sensual food, but also a product with true nutritional benefits including improvement of endothelial and platelet function, related to cardiovascular health.

Next time, you go to the grocery store, take a dark Hershey chocolate, and compare the information with that of a white Nestle chocolate. You will find differences in their ingredients, but especially in the higher proportion of fats in white chocolate.

Although cardiovascular benefits of dark chocolate are still in debate due to risks associated with effects of glucose and lipid, in body weight, dark chocolate has anti-oxidative effects that benefit the heart.

Ghirardelli chocolate was associated to recent research studying the benefits of flavonoids in dark chocolate. Lindt Chocolates are also reputed for lowering high blood pressure. Whatever brand is your preference, balance your calories with up to a 100-gram serving a day, can help you to improve your health.

When it comes to the World's Finest Chocolates, apples have been left behind, substituting the saying with this phrase: "A Dark Chocolate a Day Keeps the Doctor Away", and this saying seems true, indeed.

Yes, believe it or not, there are good things we can get from consuming black chocolates. But before you go to your nearest chocolate store, heed the following first and see for yourself.

Chocolate is actually made from plants. This simply means that it may contain many good health benefits of dark veggies. Benefits included came from a certain element that acts out as antioxidants. These, in turn, protect our body from aging very fast because of free radicals which eventually cause damages that can lead to heart disease. Antioxidants, about 8 times the number that is found on strawberries, are actually present in dark chocolates.

The elements flavonoids, that produce antioxidants, can also help our blood pressure to relax by means of producing nitric oxide, and then balance certain hormones in our body too. This will show that dark chocolates are also good for our heart. In fact, a small bar of it eaten daily can help our heart and the cardiovascular system to run well.

And to illustrate the heart's heath benefits that can be taken from eating dark chocolates, let us look at this:

? Lowering blood pressure-there are studies that have been shown that eating up a small bar of this chocolate on a daily basis can actually reduce blood pressure especially for individuals with high BP.

? Lowering cholesterol-yes, you read it right. Dark chocolates have also been proven to reduce the bad cholesterol, known as LDL cholesterol, by a great 10 %.

Aside from having natural antioxidants, researches have also shown that dark chocolates contain anti-inflammatory molecules that can really cool off inflammation, they also have the capacity to reduce weight and even the symptoms of body fatigue. It has been researched also that those who love milk chocolates can replace them with dark ones so that the serotonin level of our brain will be improved.

Although dark chocolates contain high calories and fat, once it is taken properly, they can also help our attempt to lose weight. This is because some of the fats in chocolate do not have any impact on our cholesterol level. The actual fats in dark chocolates are as follows:

? Palmitic acid, which is 1/3, is a saturated fat that when taken in excess could raise cholesterol and the risk of having heart disease.

? Oleic acid, which is 1/3, is actually a monounsaturated fat that is also present in olive oil.

? Stearic acid, which is also 1/3, is saturated fat but then research has shown that it has an effect which is neutral on cholesterol.

To sum these facts up, only 1/3 of the actual fat in the dark chocolates you take is bad for you. That, to some weight loss fanatics, is good news. Imagine continuing your diet even if you are taking dark chocolates? What could be better than that?

And another thing is that chocolates also offer benefit apart form the ones mentioned above. It tastes good, it can stimulate the production of endorphin (this gives us a feeling of pleasure), it contains theobromine, and other substances that can be stimulants also, like caffeine.

But, don't get this article wrong. This doesn't mean that you can actually indulge and eat a pound of chocolate everyday. We still have to remember that it is still a high-fat and a high-calorie food. For instance, one delicious bar of chocolate actually has around 400 calories, now, if you eat half bar of it, you must exert all efforts to balance the 200 calories you have eaten by eating less of other things that caused fat. You must cut all the other sweet intakes that you normally do.

You see, balance is still the key. And if you will have a go at it, always prefer the dark chocolates over the others. Since they have cocoas, which are indeed healthy and good for us, plus the other good things mentioned above, dark chocolate can give you health benefits than the other types of chocolates.

The benefits of dark chocolate have been reported in many scientific journals in recent years. One of these was the study by Grassi, Lippi, Necozione, and Desideri in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2005. These researchers found that dark chocolate decreased blood pressure and had a positive impact on insulin sensitivity in healthy persons.

Dark chocolate provides health benefits due to the flavonoids found in cocoa. These benefits were first seen in the Kuna Indian population living in the San Blas Islands off the coast of Panama. This population has a very low incidence of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. They also consume high quantities of cocoa-rich beverages. This led researchers to study the link between cocoa and their health. They observed definite links between the cocoa and their low incidence of certain diseases.

The flavanoids found in cocoa serve as antioxidants when ingested. These flavonoids protect blood vessels from undergoing oxidative changes that result in certain diseases. The result is stronger capillaries and other connective tissue that leads to enhanced health and wellness.

They didn't know about flavonoids centuries ago but they did know that there were health benefits to dark chocolate. Historical documents have been discovered that refer to the medicinal use of chocolate in treating diseases such as angina and heart pain.

Plants are protected from microbes and insects by their flavonoids. For humans, these ingested antioxidants trigger the production of natural enzymes that protect us from disease just as they do the plants that contain them.

What are some flavonoid-rich foods?

cocoa

blueberries

cranberries

red beans

red fruits

yellow fruits

red vegetables

yellow vegetables

certain nuts

green tea

There are many health benefits to eating even small amounts of this nutrient. A well-balanced diet consisting of adequate fruits, vegetables, nuts, and even a little dark chocolate will provide sufficient levels of these antioxidants.

What are some of the health benefits?

reduces risk of certain cancers such as ovarian cancer

lowers blood pressure

improves insulin resistance

reduces risk of stroke and heart attack

fights atherosclerosis

reduces risk of chronic respiratory problems

protects from UV light that may reduce the risk of skin cancer

decreases inflammation and pain associated with arthritis

the smell of chocolate may increase theta brain waves which results in relaxation

Before you stock up on chocolate bars there are some important facts to keep in mind:

dark chocolate has the beneficial flavonoids; stay away from white and milk chocolate

European chocolate is highest in flavonoids

monitor the fat and calories you consume with chocolate; you only need a very small amount to benefit

do not rely on dark chocolate for the bulk of your antioxidants; let it replace your unhealthy sweets

The role of flavonoid rich foods in preventing disease and maintaining health and wellness will continue to be heavily researched by scientists. Try to stay informed of these and other developments in contemporary health and wellness.

Dental Tourism does not have the concept actually ring Bell between local, but is actually becoming a hot new trend in providing excellent care for the less the cost of a normal dental of superior quality and services.

It is generally understood to travel abroad for the sole purpose of which is able to provide high-quality dental services and procedures. This is due to dental services in one country can be inflated with and very expensive. Dental tourism has become a trend in America, in particular, that the majority of the citizens of THE UNITED STATES has been lucky and gain access to dental insurance benefits. Americans one be known to be regularly traveling to Mexico to dental services, such as dental implants. This is because of dental care services in a manner more widely available in that country, as well as in other countries, in comparison with the dental services offered in the continental U.S.

While the more acceptable costs is primarily the reason for availing dental travel or tourism, most people take advantage of this is also due to the very necessary dental services that cannot be easily achieved in their own country or in a given location. Whereas, in that it cannot take advantage of these services urgently in its own place their Scout for affordable care elsewhere, with a view to settling their dental needs.

It is widely known that dark chocolate is one of the best sources of antioxidants and flavonoids that help protect your body from aging caused by free radicals. So the question is how much is enough and how much is too much?

When you hear that dark chocolate has almost 8-times the amounts of antioxidants found in strawberries you might think that it's ok to just eat mass quantities for ultimate health. However, that is certainly not the case. The bottom line is that it is still a very high fat and high calorie food and you should still limit your intake even though the antioxidants are superior to many other sources. Ideally if you're interested in reaping the benefits from dark chocolate you should be eating no more than a half bar or about 3-4 ounces per day. Anything more than this and the benefits are simply overtaken by the harm of extra calories and fat.

So now that you know how much is just enough, what exactly are the benefits you'll gain from eating 3-4 ounces per day. Here are some of the good aspects of dark chocolate:

1. First and foremost, it tastes good. If someone told you eating a bowl of ice cream everyday is one of the most healthiest things you could do, wouldn't that be spectacular? Well, this is as close as it gets as chocolate is definitely a great treat to have and having it daily is even better.

2. You can actually lower LDL cholesterol, which is the bad cholesterol, by upwards of 10% by eating small amounts daily. Again, all in moderation so make sure you're only eating the minimal amounts (3-4 ounces or less.)

3. Eating dark chocolate can actually lower your blood pressure. There have been many studies throughout the world that prove that eating a few ounces per day can help those suffering from high blood pressure.

4. Dark chocolate actually contains a compound called serotonin which is a well known anti-depressant. It's hard to be depressed when you're eating chocolate and now serotonin helps that whole theory!

My last recommendation is to make sure you're getting the highest quality dark chocolate with the highest percentage of cocoa you can find. Anything over 70% cocoa and you'll have some of the best on the market with the ultimate in health benefits. Keep looking around at your local food stores as they're beginning to stock these higher quality chocolate products in their candy aisles.

Good luck and keep eating that dark chocolate, within reason of course.

One of the most pleasant medical findings we've heard in our lifetime is that dark chocolates are actually good for our health. A lot of us love chocolates, so it felt like hitting the jackpot when studies showed its numerous health benefits. Chocolates taste heavenly, especially the dark type that doesn't come too sweet. And it's quite welcome hearing that something you had secretly indulged in turned out to be good, when all the time you were thinking it was bad for you!

Dark chocolates have been observed to carry anti-aging benefits. Research has revealed that it helps slow down the aging process and contributes to mental alertness, helping us all to maintain a healthy body and a youthful mind. The key ingredient responsible for all these is known as flavinoids, which occur naturally in cacao and possess anti-oxidant properties. Cacao is often removed due to its bitter taste, but dark chocolate carries much of it. That explains its distinct flavour that some people find quite pleasurable. For dark chocolate to carry the said health benefits, it has to have cocoa content of at least 70 percent.

Flavinoids have been noted to help reduce blood pressure and regulate bad LDL cholesterol so we can maintain a more robust and youthful heart. Another interesting observation on the benefits of dark chocolate is on its effect on the functions of the brain. It has shown positive results in helping fight memory loss, inducing mental alertness and improving blood flow to the brain. Dark chocolate also stimulates the production of endorphins. Endorphins are responsible for giving us those feel-good moments so we can focus on the positive aspects of life and remain more cheerful and pleasant.

These findings do not give us the green light to overindulge though. For it to remain beneficial, one has to take it in controlled amounts since it is a high-calorie, high-fat food type. Some are also formulated with lots of sugar in the form of caramel and nougat, so we should stay away from these. Opt instead for those that come plain, with orange peel and other fruits and nuts as they can maximize the benefits all the more.

Chocolate has been cultivated in the Americas for thousands of years. The cacao plant, where chocolate comes from, is native to Mexico. It's popularity spread across the world with Spanish colonization. Today, most chocolate is grown in hot, humid climates in a combination of direct sunlight and shade from tropical forests. The neutral soil of each of the world's growing regions is surprisingly different, which contributes to the unique taste of each area's chocolate. The most recognized cacao-producing regions are in Central and South America and Africa.

A range of tastes

Specifically, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela and Madagascar produce the majority of the world's cacao. However, many countries like Belize, Nicaragua and Grenada are also getting a foothold in organic cacao farming. Flavors range from the fruity notes of Ecuadoran chocolate, to spicy overtones in that from Trinidad and Tobago. Cacao from Madagascar tends to be citrus-scented and acidic. The Dominican Republic produces chocolate that is earthy and nutty-tasting. Chocolate from Venezuela evokes dark, ripe fruit. Finally, Panama's chocolate bears a classic cocoa flavor. Also unique from one growing area to the next is the way chocolate is consumed. Rather than processed chocolate bars, many cacao-producing countries enjoy chocolate in various hot and cold drink forms.

Concerns about consuming chocolate

Some cacao producers have been found guilty of human rights abuses such as child labor. This has been found particularly in West Africa, where the majority of the United States' largest chocolate makers - Hershey's, Nestle, and M&M/Mars, still acquire their chocolate. To avoid indirectly supporting virtual slavery, you can purchase chocolate cultivated with a fair trade philosophy. Fair trade producers tend to be smaller in scale, and more beneficial contributors to local economies, while still growing high quality cacao.

Consumers are recognizing the taste and health benefits of dark chocolate at an amazing rate. Now, you can responsibly travel the world through the enjoyment of remarkably diverse chocolate.

DID is an amazing model of functioning and an intelligent coping mechanism, however, once the reason for developing DID is no longer relevant it can become more harmful than beneficial and this is where help is needed. When I can't remember half of my summer holiday, I wonder why I bothered going on a holiday. When I start cooking dinner then forget I was even doing it until my husband reminds me, I feel down and useless. When I zone out for periods of time or can't concentrate on work because of the chatter in my head, it makes me anxious that I will lose my job.

Hiding from emotions is part of my problem. The emotions are there, but they can be hard to tolerate so I tend to self harm. This works as a distraction. It's easier to feel a physical pain than an intense emotional pain.

Eating disorders are my way of trying to take control of my life where I feel I have no control whatsoever.

My clinical psychology sessions, have been largely focussed on dealing with comorbidities and trying to achieve some stability and in my everyday life for the last two years.

I was only actually explicitly told by my psychologist that I have DID after over a year in therapy. This came as a shock in many ways (although I dont know why because all  the signs were there, but I guess you just never think you're going to be told you have something like that) and has taken me a long time to get my head around. I wouldnt say I have my head around it yet either. I still struggle with it a lot.

Now, my psychologist is moving into working with me to identify my 'parts'. I think this will then lead on to merging them into one more stable person (something that some of my parts feel quite ambivalent about) and I am informed this will involve a therapy called EMDR.

Identifying my parts is a very difficult process in itself. Some of my parts don't want to be identified; some, I am not very aware of. Often, in a therapy session 'I' am not present. Be aware that the person writing this blog today is a part of the overall 'me' who is quite insightful and reflective and has a good knowledge of the parts of 'me'. I imagine, this is the part of me that will often write this blog. This person is not the person who always attends my therapy session. Generally, once my psychologist begins to ask me about my parts, there will commence a battle of wills inside my head between those wanting to express themselves and those wanting us to keep quiet to avoid the potential of being hurt or possibly destroyed.

Thinking and talking about parts in itself can be enough to make me unstable again, in which case, this stage of therapy will go on hold while we deal with gaining stability in life again (ie reducing depression, talking about reducing self harm, being able to function in life to continue working). There is a part of me who self harms to punish me for revealing them. Therefore, this is always a potential hazard in talking about parts. It means, this stage of therapy has to move at a very slow pace. Sometimes it feels like I take one step forwards and two steps back.

From what I've read, some people manage to integrate all of their parts into one stable person; for others it's living a stable life with their parts. I am hoping for the former but I guess that may largely depend on my progress through therapy and my therapist's patience!

Any questions or comments are welcome and will help me to write about what you want to hear.

Bye for now,

Candycan

Why Raw Chocolate?

Raw cacao has a large concentration of minerals such as magnesium and sulfur, both of which are central to many of the body's processes. It also contains enzyme inhibitors that help sustain the amount of the chemical andandamide in our bodies. Andandamide contributes to feelings of happiness in the brain.

Cooking and processing dilutes the nutritional value of cacao. Cacao naturally contains small amounts of caffeine. However, the aromatic and tannic substances released during the roasting process amplify its effects and have also been known to contribute to insomnia, anxiety and mood swings.

So how do you reap the health benefits of dark chocolate? The answer: raw, organic chocolate. Here are two ways this nutritionally-rich and complex food can be enjoyed:

1. Cocoa Nibs

One of the best ways to consume organic raw cacao is in the form of cacao nibs. Similar to chocolate chips, they are great as an addition to trail mix, yogurt or blended into a chocolate shake. They are unroasted and often unsweetened but taste like true chocolate.

2. Cocoa Powder

Cocoa powder has the largest amount of flavanols, which research suggests may help protect the body from disease. It's also high in antioxidants. It is the least processed form of cacao and contains no fillers. You can use raw organic cocoa powder to make soy ice cream, smoothies or coconut water shakes. Dairy products may inhibit the absorption of the antioxidants in chocolate, so blend cocoa powder into non-dairy products.

What To Buy

The majority of cacao products on the market today are made from roasted beans and aren't the place to derive maximum nutritional value. Organic raw cacao is the best option and is easily found in health food and some grocery stores. In the absence of raw, organic chocolate, the next healthiest form of chocolate is organic dark chocolate, particularly unsweetened or bittersweet. Milk chocolate should not be considered healthy in any way given the fats, oils and refined sugars it contains.

People want to know if they can still satisfy their craving for chocolate without suffering the usual fattening side-effect. And better still, they would love it if eating chocolate, or at least dark chocolate, can confer health benefits.

Food of the Gods

Chocolate, in all its varieties, is classified as a food. One dictionary definition is that it is "a food prepared from ground roasted cacao beans."  It is loved by young and old - to such an extent that some have called it the food of the gods. In fact the scientific name of chocolate is "theobroma cacao." Theobroma is Greek which translates as "food of the gods" or "god food."

At less celestial levels, some have coined the phrase "food without borders", referring to the international liking of chocolate.

Chocolate is not a natural food. Cacao (or cocoa) is a natural food, but chocolate is derived from the processing of cacao. The finished product, the chocolate bar in the shop, contains large amounts of sugar, fat and other additives. It is a calorie time-bomb, or, should I say, instant explosive.

Benefits of Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate, depending on its quality, is less calorie-laden. It typically contains much less cocoa butter than light chocolate. So score one for dark chocolate on this count.

Light chocolate, also called milk chocolate, as its name implies, contains milk which lightens its color and makes it taste smoother. The chief health benefit of chocolate is from flavanoids which have antioxidant qualities. They are said to help improve or relax blood pressure by producing nitric oxide. It may also help to reduce bad cholesterol levels. Research shows that the addition of milk destroys the antioxidants. So score two for dark chocolate over light or milk chocolate on this count.

Other benefits of chocolate, not restricted, I think, to the dark variety, is that it leads to feelings of pleasure due to the production of endorphin. It also contains serotonin, which is an anti-depressant. But some researchers say that the protein in the chocolate will counteract the serotonin. At the same time, there are stimulants like theobromine and caffeine. All these ingredients, in combination, tend to produce, I suppose, a sense of pleasure, a happy mood and yet a slightly sharpened alertness.

But the taste? That depends on individuals. Most people find the bitterness in dark chocolate not so appetizing, which, it might be said, is also its virtue. But if you want to take it like a medicine, there is nothing wrong with that! There are, however, those who actually prefer its taste to the more sugary and sweeter light chocolate. They are the lucky ones. It can also be an acquired taste, boosted by the thought of its goodness.

How Much Dark Chocolate to Consume

Dark chocolate is still chocolate - it is high-calorie and high-fat. Dark and light simply have relatively more or less amounts. A small dose of dark chocolate, say not more than 100 grams, each day or every other day, to get the flavanoids, if you must, should be enough. More will be counter-productive. All studies testing the benefits have involved a daily consumption of less than this amount. And remember to balance out the calorie intake by cutting out other snacks. (People on antidepressant medication which contains monoamine oxidase inhibitors should proceed with caution, as they are advised to avoid tyramine, which is a chemical in chocolate.)

Watch out also that the manufacturers have not removed the bitterness by taking away the flavanoids. Some scientists are also skeptical of the long-term effect. They think that when a person has a regular high intake of flavanoids the body will adapt and the beneficial effect will dissipate.

Final Thoughts

The moral of the story has to be: everything in moderation. In this vein, an occasional and measured indulgence in the other types of chocolate should not be excluded.

Everything we eat is part of our diet. It is the overall diet that we have to watch.

We all know that stress can have terribly destructive effects on both our physical and emotional health. Sometimes prolonged stress can be responsible for some pretty serious health problems as well.

A new study by scientists at the Nestle Research Center in Lausanne Switzerland has found more about the health benefits of dark chocolate and that enjoying this type of chocolate might not just be a tasty indulgence, but it also appears to lower levels of stress hormones in those who are feeling stressed out.

Add this to the growing number of potential benefits to your heart that come from dark chocolate and all those good-for-you flavonoids inside that tasty package, and you'll be choosing this delicious confectionary over any other kind.

Enjoying one dark chocolate candy bar daily for two weeks was found in this latest study to actually reduce levels of cortisol as well as the "fight or flight" hormones known as catecholamines in highly stressed people.

So, if you're dealing with constant stress, a small amount of 70% cocoa chocolate or higher each day might be just the thing to help you cope.

In the study, the team examined the effects on 30 healthy adults of eating 1.4 ounces (40 grams, the size of an average candy bar) of rich and yummy dark chocolate every day for a two-week period on measures of stress.

Half the candy bar was eaten mid-morning, the other half mid-afternoon. The anxiety levels of the subjects were determined at the start of the study using validated psychological questionnaires, allowing the team to classify subjects as low or high anxiety.

Body fluids (blood and urine) were also collected and analyzed at the beginning and end of the research period.

The result was that those with lots of anxiety who ate dark chocolate daily cut stress hormone levels. It also seems to have a beneficial effect on the metabolism and microbial action of the digestive system.

"Consuming dark chocolate daily can positively impact the metabolism of people that report having high-stress levels," explains Sunil Kochhar, a Nestle researcher leading the study. "These results strongly support our ongoing metabonomics research efforts to ascertain the impact of certain foods on human metabolism through the adaptation of gut microbial activities."

The study appears in the Journal of Proteome Research and was conducted by a team of experts at the Nestle Research Center located in Lausanne, Switzerland.

It makes sense that chocolate, which comes from plants, should have some of the same natural, good-for-you substances found in dark veggies.

Flavonoids in this kind of chocolate are nearly 8 times what you find in strawberries, and act as antioxidants that protect the body from damage caused by free radicals.

They also help relax blood pressure by producing nitric oxide, as well as balancing some hormones in the body.

And while chocolate of any kind does contain fats, only 1/3 of the fat in dark chocolate is bad for you. That doesn't mean indulge all you like... keep your dark chocolate intake to no more than 100 grams (about 3.5 ounces) a day to get the benefits without suffering because of the added calories.

Remember too, that the calories you take in from chocolate must be balanced to get the best health benefits of dark chocolate, by lessening the amount you take in someplace else so you won't be packing on the pounds while you're coping with an especially stressful time.

More good news for dark chocolate lovers... a recent report has identified the precise molecular mechanism that explains dark chocolate health benefits come from a compound in the chocolate that protects the heart, and can guard against the damage of a stroke.

The substance is a flavanol known as epicatechin that sets in motion two built in protective pathways in the brain that shield nerve cells from damage as the result of stroke.

The work was conducted on mice who were induced to suffer a stroke. The researchers gave different doses of epicatechin to the mice 90 minutes before a stroke and found that it significantly reduced infarct size, the measurement used to assess stroke damage.

The protective effect lasted up to 3.5 hours, but not longer than 6 hours. The substance was found to offer no protection to mice that had been bred without these brain pathways.

The team of researchers was careful to focus on cocoa over chocolate. The truth is, eating lots of chocolate is never going to be a healthy choice, but moderating your intake and enjoying other healthy foods just might be.

Interestingly, it was research involving the cocoa drinking Kuna Indians that led experts to study epicatechin in the first place. These people have an unusually low incidence of stroke and other heart disease that can't be explained by genetics, and was eventually attributed to drinking of very bitter cocoa drink. The substance was identified as the protective ingredient in dark chocolate by studies conducted by other scientists, including those out of Harvard Medical School.

It makes sense that cocoa, which comes from plants after all, would have a measure of the natural, good-for-you substances found in dark fruits or veggies.

Flavonoids in dark chocolate are known to be nearly 8 times those found in strawberries, they function as antioxidants that protect the cells of the body from damage caused by free radicals. They also help lower blood pressure by producing nitric oxide and balancing some hormones in the body.

And while some will tell you that chocolate of all kinds does have fats, the good news is that only 1/3 of the fat in dark chocolate is bad for you.

That is not to suggest you indulge without restraint, the experts recommend you keep your dark chocolate intake to no more than 100 grams (about 3.5 ounces) a day to get the benefits without struggling with weight issues because of the added calories.

It's important to keep in mind that in getting dark chocolate health benefits the calories you take in be balanced by lessening the amount you take in someplace else. This latest research in animals supports the idea that epicatechin could be used to treat stroke in people. Despite the promise, using this substance to address stroke outside the laboratory is a way off - risks and side effects of the substance must first be studied. Natural does not always mean without risk.

There have been numerous questions as regards the dark chocolates and their health benefits. Scientists from the time of their invention have been doing researches to find out whether dark chocolates are really beneficial for the human body or not. There are numerous health benefits of dark chocolates. They are the following:

Dark chocolate contains a substance called flavonoids which has a number of benefits. Dark chocolates are regarded as antioxidants. Most diseases are caused by oxidation of the cells of the body. When the cellular oxidation reaches a certain level, then various kinds of diseases occur in the body. In order to prevent cellular oxidation, it is important to take a lot of green tea as well as dark chocolates. Green tea and chocolates also possess an anti ageing property.

The function of the chocolates is to capture the free radicals which are harmful to the body. Some of the dark chocolates have more anti oxidizing property than others. This is because of the flavonoid content of dark chocolate. Some chocolates contain 70% flavonoid while some contains 75%, 80% or even 90%. Truly speaking there is no dark chocolate which contains 100% flavonoid.

Another important function of the dark chocolate is to reduce the blood pressure. This is possible because of high content of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is considered to have hormonal effect and reduces blood pressure. If the hormonal balance is maintained the blood pressure remains normal. This is the reason why dark chocolates, when consumed by people with chronic heart disease and other pulmonary problems give some relief.

Dark chocolates are considered to reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol as much as ten percent. They stimulate the production of endorphins and serotonin. Dark chocolates contain caffeine, theobromine and other stimulants, and have a good taste as well.

It is also important to note that dark chocolate is a fairly fatty food. About one third of the fats in chocolate are monounsaturated, and two thirds are saturated. This means the fats are able to affect your cholesterol levels. Moreover there is also a high sugar content in the chocolate. Thus there is a high possibility to gain weight on too much consumption of chocolates. It is said according to research result that three and a half ounces of dark chocolate can be taken each day to enjoy its benefits. This comes to an intake of about four hundred calories, similar to having two small doughnuts.

The Xocai x power squares use cacao that is blanched, unfermented, sun-dried, non-roasted and cold-pressed, which means it boasts eight times the levels of epicatechins & catechins. Buy now online!
